Dog agility is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK. Dog and handler work together to complete a series of obstacles such as jumps, tyre, see-saw, weave poles and A-frame in the fastest time possible. To work as a team dog and handler form a special bond.
Although agility training is great fun it also provides a fabulous way to train a dog. Control is the essence of good agility and most people find that their relationship with their dog improves as does the dogs behaviour and obedience. Agility can also provide a great social life. Whether you choose to attend a weekly session just for fun or decide to compete you'll be amongst like minded people with the same thing in common - their dog. Our annual fun day is always popular and during summer months we are in demand for exhibitions.
Most dogs were originally bred to do a job of work. Although our pet dogs now live in a domestic environment almost all dogs still have a need to work in some way. Agility provides both a physical and mental stimulant. From Yorkshire terriers and basset hounds to rottweillers and weimarners any dog can and will do agility. Our members have an age range of 8 to 73 and our dogs from 12 months to 12 years, So anybody and any dog can do agility. I have seen three legged, one eyed dogs and people in wheel chairs competing all over the country.
Our agility training classes are held in a secure field on the B4114 at Broughton Astley near the Mill On The Soar in Leicester. Classes are held on Saturdays, Sundays and Thursdays with two instructors experienced in competitive agility. A one hour group agility lesson costs £6 payable four weekly, in advance.
Please note: At the moment all of our weekend classes are full and we have an extensive waiting list of people wanting to come. A few places are still available on a Thursday, during the daytime.
Paws On has a duty of care to attending dogs and we are therefore unable to accomodate dogs with any agressive tendencies towards either dogs or people.
